Hello friends of Mears & Shelby UMC
Do you know what day May 4th is? My kids would say that it’s Star Wars Day – May the 4th be with you – lol. Some would say that it’s the day before Cinco de Mayo. Both would be right, but it’s something more as well. May 4th this year is the National Day of Prayer.
The National Day of Prayer is always on the first Thursday in May. It came up on my calendar pretty fast this year. First it was Easter and then we’re off and running into spring. Anyway, this is a national campaign to pray for our country, you can go to their website at www.nationaldayofprayer.org. This year’s theme is: James 5:16b “The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
Different groups celebrate this day in different ways – but most importantly it is a day in which we can all pray together for our country, our leadership, our military services and veterans, educational systems and every facet of our government. Our country needs all of the prayer that we can possibly give it! So I would like to ask each of you to mark May 4th on your calendar and make a point to take a few minutes out of your day and pray.
Blessings,
Pastor Bev
