Every June I have a tendency to start thinking, and sometimes singing that classic song
from the movie Carousel by Rogers and Hammerstein, “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”.
“Y’ken feel it in yer heart, June is bustin’ out all over!
Y’ken see it in the ground! All over the meadow and the hill,
Y’ken hear it in the trees, Buds’re bustin’ outa bushes,
Y’ken smell it in the breeze— And the rompin’ river pushes
Look around, look around, look around! Ev’ry little wheel that wheels beside a mill.}
I truly do see June “’bustin out” as my rosebushes are budding and blooming, especially
with all of the rain that we had last month. It seems as if they’re indeed going wild.
Meanwhile, my poor indoor houseplants may survive, or may not. It’s touch and go.
How else is June ‘bustin? Most of the graduates have donned their caps and gowns,
and this is the traditional best wedding month. Yes, of course, I had to mention the
weddings. We are excited to be traveling to the Grand Tetons in ID/WY as I will be
performing the ceremony for our granddaughter’s wedding. I’ll be sure to post pictures
on my social media pages. It’s sure to be something to remember.
How are the churches ‘bustin this year? Will they be bursting the seams and embracing
the summer and starting something new? In Mears we will be having a Summer Story
Time at noon on Tuesdays and offer a free lunch of sandwiches, chips and a cookie.
While that may not seem like bursting to you – we will be outside of the church when the
weather is nice. Indoors will be for rainy days only.
What are some other ways in which we can break from the bondage of “We’ve always
done it this way?” How will the churches embrace the 21 st century world? What will
ministry look like next year for us? Keep these questions in mind, because it doesn’t
have to be just June when ministry happens.
