Happy New Year to all of you! This will definitely be a year of change for all of us. Not only will we be changing our service time to 10am, but we will also have opportunities for learning along the way. Since I have been in ministry, I usually take a week to plan out the sermon series for the year the first week of January. All year long when I have sermon ideas, I put them in a folder so that I can look through it to decide what sounds interesting and also what may or may not follow the lectionary. Usually, I do not follow the lectionary as most pastors do. The lectionary is an agreed upon schedule of scripture in a three-year cycle. 2024 was the year B, the Gospel of Mark. 2025 is the Gospel of Luke and 2026 will start the cycle again. There is no year for the Gospel of John – isn’t that a shame?
I find that planning a schedule in advance reduces quite a bit of stress. So, over the New Year’s holiday and the first full week of January I will be working on my schedule. Sometimes I can get the entire year mapped out, while other years I might get it planned to August or September. This year I am planning on spending some time in Revelation, and our long-awaited study on the Holy Spirit. For those of you who have enjoyed The Chosen series, we can start on Season 4 while we wait for Season 5 to come out in the theater this spring.
I am so looking forward for whatever God-opportunities presented to us this year and I pray that you’ll be with us on the journey!
Happy New Year Blessings,
Pastor Bev Williams
