(Newsletter Here)
I wish you all a happy and blessed 2023. I cannot believe that we’ve been together for eight months already. Whew! All the decorations are down and it is time to settle in for the rest of the winter.
This is the first edition of our updated newsletter which you will be receiving monthly. We are trying to keep costs down by sending electronically, however, if you need to have your copy snail mailed then please let us know. You should receive your newsletter sometime during the first week of each new month, although sometimes it may be later especially by snail mail. We will do our best to keep it as consistent as we can.
It is our goal with this newsletter to spread news about the goings-on of the churches in Mears and Shelby UMC which may include items about missions and ministries within our community. We will be changing the way that we do our service Prayer Time to include those persons with long term prayer concerns in a special section. We will also include prayers for our missions and ministries in a special section of its own. Yes, our service prayer time will be changing and we ask for your patience as we may take some time changing the format.
The best change of all is that we will be including a list of Bible passages for you if you would like to read your Bible daily. These passages, taken from the One Year Bible (Tyndale House Publishers) include a reading of the Old Testament, new Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. If you’ve never done a daily reading before then start simple– like a New Testament reading each day, progress as you are able. The main thing is, if you miss a day, don’t worry about it but go to whatever today is. This is for those who do not have a personal reading plan already or would like to try something new. There is no certain version of the Bible, but I strongly suggest that you use a version that is easy to understand: New King James Version, NIV, New Living Translation etc. Don’t bog yourself down with these, thous and therefore if it is confusing for you. If that’s what you’re used to then by all means use that. Keep it simple and let God speak to you through the reading of his word.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about the possibilities that God has for us this year. I can’t wait to see how our faith gets lived out in Mears and Shelby in 2023.
Blessings,
Pastor Bev
