January has passed, and hopefully so has all of the worst of the bad weather. I’ve been hard at work planning new series for this year. I’m really looking forward to these because some will be learning, some just for fun and all about living life as followers of Jesus Christ. Here they are:
In February we will be finishing up our series about Worship in Revelation.
In March we will be starting a Lenten series about Unsung Heroes of the Bible, and we will be having an accompanying take-home study from our friends at UMC Ministries of Mecosta County called 40 Days of Kindness Challenge. “Each day of this challenge includes three simple focus areas: Kindness, Justice and Self-Care”. I found it very interesting, and I hope that you will as well.
After Easter we will have a six-week sermon series which I have titled, “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” You’ll find that I have a lot of song titles for sermons this year. This series will focus on the different kinds of love. This will bring us up to Annual Conference at the end of May.
In June we will have my most popular sermon series of all time, “God and Country Music” which looks at how Christianity has influenced Country Music culture. We will have songs by artists such as Dolly Parton, Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood and more. You will not want to miss this series!
In August we will have a series based on where we live – Bible Stories of the Dunes! Wait, what?! What do the dunes have to tell us about the Bible? Well, the desert sands of the Bible can tell us things like, where to build a house, which is an obvious one. The sands also have things of beauty revealed in them, as well as cover up the worst of our sins.
In the fall, we will have a series based on the book by Adam Hamilton, Unafraid. As the days grow shorter, colder and as Halloween approaches, I think that it’s important to face the things that scare us. The Bible says, “Fear not!” If you are someone like me who is always afraid of everything, you won’t want to miss this one. This will then bring us into Advent, which I admittedly do not have a plan for yet. I know, you’re disappointed – lol. You might ask why I intentionally plan out the entire year like this? There are two answers to this question. First of all, it keeps me away from the temptation to bring politics into church. We are not here to further political agendas or to preach a certain party or be a part of Christian Nationalism. Secondly, it makes it so much easier to have a plan and work the plan. Can this plan change? I think that we all found out with Covid in 2020 that yes, any plans can change at a moment’s notice, however, this is where I intend for us to go as a church. I hope that you’ll stay along for our journey in 2025.
Blessings,
