Spring is finally starting to arrive after what has been a long, hard winter. My daffodils are starting to sprout from their slumber to proclaim spring’s arrival along with a few robins. My bird feeder has gone from stagnant to quite active, and even Mr. Squirrel has arrived for a free meal, much to my dog Divot’s disapproval. Soon enough the Jeepers will be heading through Mears for fun on the Dunes and the summer crowds are just around the corner.
April is going to be a very busy month, and I am very much looking forward to our
annual Lenten services:
- Maundy Thursday Potluck, April 2 at 5:30pm
- Good Friday Service @ Mears UMC with Hart UMC & Centenary UMC 6:30pm
- Sunrise Easter Celebration 8:30am
- Breakfast at 9am
- Regular Easter Celebration 10am
Because Easter Sunday is on the first of the month we will be celebrating communion at the regular 10am service, however if someone is not staying for that service, I would ask you to stay a few minutes longer and I will serve individuals. I hope to see you there! I will then be traveling home to Kenosha, WI to visit my mother and sisters and will be back at the office on Thursday April 9th . Pastor Gary Peterson will be available for any emergencies for those three days. We know that a lot can happen in three days!
When I return, I will be starting not only a new Sunday sermon series, “Conversations with the Risen Lord” which will be about prayer, but also the podcast “Grace and Peace with Pastor Bev” will focus on women in the Old Testament. The first episode will, of course, start with Eve and quite possibly answer the question, “Where do the other women come from?” which I have been asked numerous times. There will be discussions about some controversial subjects such as the abuse of Hagar, Lot and Dinah. There are a total of 17 women mentioned in the Bible, not all of which we will have lengthy discussions about, but interesting, nonetheless. Make sure to follow us on our Youtube Channel Mears UMC and click on the podcast or follow us on the Facebook page. Some of you might be wondering why we have such things as a podcast when we already have services online. Well, there is only so much that can be covered in a Sunday morning service, and we want to do all that we can to testify to the truth of Jesus Christ. The podcast is simply another mode of doing it. We have several other good things in the works, not including our new furnace which is already installed and we received generous donations to help defer the cost – praise God! Stay tuned for more to come!
Blessings,
Pastor Bev
