One of the classic, yet modern hymns that I enjoy singing every year is H#304 “Easter People, Raise Your Voices” by William M. James. “Easter people, raise your voices, sounds of heaven in earth should ring.”
The thing is, I usually do not plan to sing it on Easter Sunday. That’s because we are “Easter People” all year long. “For our Lord empowered us to triumph over every foe.” If only we would remember that we can celebrate the resurrection more than once, because we live in the time of the post-resurrection. How quickly we, as the church, concentrate on our sin and need of repentance when actually we should be quicker to praise God that we live after Christ was raised from the dead. This gives us the wonderful, everlasting hope that we will participate in the resurrection.
Let us indeed raise our voices in praise for the blessings of our risen Savior each and every day.
